Meet Brittney of A Mom Well Traveled

interview with brittney of a mom well traveled

Hey, what’s your blog name?

Hi my name is Brittney and I write the blog, A Mom Well Traveled.

Where do you live?

I’m in Orlando Florida.

Tell us more about you and your blog?

After photographing weddings for 10 years, I had my daughter in 2018 and knew I wanted to retire from photography. I then decided I would turn my blog into a “mom blog” and that’s when I started working with brands on Instagram.

As my daughter got older, I recognized that she didn’t enjoy being a part of photos. Around this same time, I also discovered a newfound love for traveling. I mostly travel with my husband. Traveling has made me feel like “me” again. It’s also been great to travel with my husband, as it provides an opportunity for us to have time together without having to parent.

In November 2022, I rebranded my website to what it is today, The Mom Well Traveled. I enjoy sharing trips my husband and I take together, things to do in Central Florida (for kids), and our family vacations.

How long have you been blogging for?

For over 10 years!

What people don’t realize about blogging is…

It’s a lot of hard work. Even though I’ve been blogging for over ten years, I’ve never gone deep into understanding keywords and SEO. I would just hit publish and make some Pinterest pins.

Give us your best tip for maintaining a blog work/life balance?

As a stay-at-home mom to a 4 year old, my days are pretty chaotic. Often times, if I need to get work done during the daytime, I’ll set up a movie or activity which usually gives me an hour to work uninterrupted or I do my writing at night.

What are 3 things you wish you knew about blogging before you started?

  1. Understanding keywords.
  2. SEO to grow organic traffic.
  3. The importance of a niche.

What does a typical work day look like for you?

I typically check emails and socials first thing in the morning. Since I am a stay-at-home mom, every day looks different. Every day I will log onto Tailwind and pin from my community boards, then I may check out some of the FB groups for bloggers and engage with others.

Since I’m trying to blog more frequently, I typically spend 3-4 days working on a blog post since I have to take so many breaks.

Occasionally, I’ll send emails to brands for potential partnerships.

Currently, I’m preparing for our upcoming trip to Italy, so I’m creating our itinerary, planning out blog posts, planning what reels I could make, etc. I’ve found that blogging and creating content comes easier if I have a full plan ahead of our trips.

We love a good plugin, what’s your favorite one and how has it helped your business?

I love Elementor as it allows me to customize my site easily and beautifully. Then I also like to use All in One SEO to help ensure I’m doing the most with my blog post for SEO.

What skills and qualities do you think are necessary for a successful and professional influencer?

As a professional photographer, I feel that I’m able share quality images

What has blogging taught you that no other career or job has before?

I would say that just because you think you know how to do something doesn’t mean you’re actually doing it well.

If there’s one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting out, what would it be?

Quality over quantity.

Give us the inside scoop, is there an app or tool that you swear by?

I recently started using Tailwind and I can’t believe I never looked into it until this year.

While you cover a few topics on your blog, which do you enjoy the most to write about and why?

Since travel is what brings me the most joy, I do enjoy writing about our travels. 5-10 years ago I would’ve never believed I’d be traveling this much or even to the destinations we’ve been able to go to.

Let’s daydream. What would your ultimate DREAM partnership look like?

I would love to partner with more tourism boards, TripAdvisor, and an airline.

We love to speak our goals into existence. What’s a current goal you’re working on?

Increasing page views and better bounce rate. I would love to be able to use Mediavine.

Celebrating the wins, even if they’re little ones, is important. What’s your most recent win with your blog?

I would say just having a niche and knowing I own my blog. If Instagram gets canceled or crashes, I can be at peace knowing I have my blog. This is why I’ve devoted more time to bettering my blog rather than trying to get IG views.

How has your content evolved since you first started out? What would we see if we went back into the archives?

I’ve started writing to be more informative than just writing about myself. I think you have to have a balance of sharing personal experience, but also having enough info to keep people reading.

We can’t work without a little background nose. What’s your go to?

90% of the time it’s Grey’s Anatomy and occasionally it’ll be Spotify.

What’s been your most favorite blogging memory to date?

I’ve been hosted by several hotels and those are always fun. I’ve also had a mini sponsorship from a tourism board and I’ve worked with several theme parks and attractions in the Orlando area.

Okay, we’re grabbing a Starbucks for a coffee date, what are you ordering?

Grande Iced Blonde Vanilla Latte

If you could meet with any blogger or influencer, who would it be and what would you ask them?

Dana Berez. I recently discovered her through researching for our Italy trip and I would just love to know how she does it. Not only does she blog, she has a YouTube channel, and Instagram. How do you enjoy your trips knowing you have to create all of this content for each social channel?
