Tell us more about you and your blog
Believe it or not, I grew up with zero interest in fashion & lived in basketball uniforms and baggy jeans. I spent more time making my Barbies look glamorous than myself. But as years passed and my doll collection began to retire, I decided to be selfish and start dressing for a change.
As I started to explore more thrift stores and clearance racks with my mom and learn all the important stuff about brands, styles and fashion in general, I knew there was a whole world out there for me to discover.
In September of 2013, The Fashionable Fox blog was born as a way to record my findings and provide style advice for those on a budget.
Where did the name come from?
Fox is my last name!
What people don’t realize about blogging is…
You HAVE to be well-rounded in your skills. It’s one thing to be a good writer, but you also need to know about photography, web design and coding, social media, and be knowledgeable about your niche. It requires so many skill sets.
What are 3 things you wish you knew about blogging before you started?
- To start off with good photography. My first photos were AWFUL.
- I wish I gave it more attention when I first started- in the beginning, I would write a post once every few months.
- I would have liked to have known more about social media in the beginning and worked harder on my Instagram appearance.
What’s been your most memorable moment as a blogger?
My favorite blogging memory is taking my Blogging class in college. I had already started my blog before taking it and my teacher would recognize that to the class a lot. I enjoyed being a source of knowledge for my peers and watching their blogs come to life, too.
Give us your best tip for maintaining a blog work/life balance
What’s helped me is being consistent with when I’m posting. I always post on Mondays and Thursdays. Because of the schedule, I know Sunday and Wednesday nights will be reserved after work for putting the final touches on a new post. I also shoot photos on the weekends so I don’t feel pressured for time during the week.
