Handmade by Lara Liz is a blog focused around contemporary garment sewing and Lara’s love of beautiful fabrics and independent sewing patterns. The blog is full of pattern reviews, pattern comparisons, and round ups of tips and tricks for tackling those difficult sewing projects. Each week starts with a #MeMadeMonday post showcasing a new outfit each week in addition to my DIY posts!
What people don’t realize about blogging is…
On the positive side, the people you meet through blogging. But on a more “work” side, the amount of planning that goes into to juggling a blog and a full time job.
What are 3 things you wish you knew about blogging before you started?
- That my blog would grow as much as it did in one year
- The importance of Instagram in growing a blog.
- All the technology tools you can use to help you blog (Later, Coschedule, Tailwind, and so on).
What’s been your most memorable moment as a blogger?
Getting to meet other sewing bloggers while traveling!
Give us your best tip for maintaining a blog work/life balance?
Plan plan plan! I write so many lists during the week to make sure I stay on top of my deadlines.

Who is the most interesting person you’ve ever met?
In college, I had a lot of opportunities to see politicians speak and meet them. The most interesting person I ever met was Jeb Bush – getting to talk to him so frankly about his political family and what the Bushes talk about at the Thanksgiving table was an experience I won’t forget.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Netflix and Hulu binging
What’s one product you can’t live without?
My curling iron – I have the DryBar curling iron and it has changed the way I do my hair.
