Kathleen of Kat's Letter Box

Hi Kathleen! What’s the name of your blog.

Kat’s Letter Box.

Where are you from?

Jacksonville, Florida.

Tell us a little bit more about you and your blog, Kat’s Letter Box.

I create lifestyle content on my blog, Kat’s Letter Box. I post a lot about fashion, career growth, and happenings around town.

Give us your best tip to staying on top of the blog/work/life balance?

I incorporate a lot of what I’m actually doing in life on my blog, so that helps. I like to set specific times to work on my content, so it’s not leaking into my work and home life.

Fill in the blank. What people don’t realize about blogging is….

How much work and time goes into it!

What are three things you wish you knew about blogging before you started?

  1. How competitive it can be. 2. Growth comes with really hard work. 3. That I’d be tempted by growth & it could affect the reason I started.

What skills and qualities do you think are necessary for a successful and professional blogger?

I think the biggest one is perseverance. It has taken hard work to get my blog where it is today, and I’m still a little tiny blog.

What has blogging taught you/given you that no other career or job has before?

It is such a creative outlet for me. I do finance by day, so blogging lets me tap into that other side of my personality. It was helped me be more outgoing with networking and has helped me value connections with people I may not have ever met in real life yet.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting out in the blog world?

Don’t worry about the numbers right in the beginning. Worry about putting out strong, quality content & you will start to grow from there.

What makes your blog different from others?

I feel like I try to keep it real. I like to showcase that life as a professional 30 something doesn’t always have to look so buttoned up.

What topic do you most enjoy writing about?

I do a series called “Real Talk” where I tackle real topics like marriage, work-life, being mean girls, etc. I think this is my favorite because they are relevant issues I’m dealing with, so I feel so passionate about them.

What does a typical work day for you look like? Whether you’re a full time blogger or not, we’d love to learn what your schedule looks like and how you manage it all.

I usually wake up and check my emails and social channels in the morning. Then I come to my 9-5 job. I am the Chief Financial Officer for the Duval County Property Appraiser’s Office. After work, I work out, have dinner with my husband and work on content while he watches his shows. I use weeks to shoot content as needed, or I will flex my work schedule to fit in shooting too.

What would your dream partnership look like? From the brand, the content, all of it! Dream up your perfect collaboration.

I’m still so new that I haven’t given this one too much thought. But ideally, I’d like to partner with brands that want to do features and give me creative freedom with content. I think collabs lose some cred when you feel like the person is speaking as the brand and not themselves.

What is a current blogging goal you are working on?

My current goal is to develop an overall theme and to get on a consistent posting schedule.

What is one thing in the blogging industry that frustrates you that you wish you could change?

It seems like the social networks are geared towards keeping the big dogs big, and us little newcomers have to work twice as hard to grow.

How has your content changed since you first started blogging?

I think it is getting a little more sophisticated. I’m also posting fewer, but more quality posts.

What’s your favorite blogging memory or highlight?

I feel like I’m finally growing, and getting traffic over to my blog. It is hard to get people to leave Insta and ACTUALLY read my blog.
