Collaborating is one of our favorite ways to grow our reach and following on Instagram. And Instagram has made it really easy to use this tool.
What Is The Collaborative Feature On Instagram?
The collaborative feature on Instagram is a tool where you can select a collaborator for your post. Before you hit publish (and now after you hit publish) you can select this account so that the content not only shows up on your profile and to your followers in their feed, but also the account you have set up as the collaborator.
This allows for more reach as your post now will be shown to that account’s followers and live in their feed. Increase your reach, possibly gain new followers and expose your content to new audiences.

How To Add A Collaborator On Instagram
Adding a collaborator on Instagram is super easy. And now you can tag up to 5 collaborators on a single post. Here’s how easy it is to do.
Step 1 – Draft your post
Head to the Instagram app and draft your Instagram post or Reel. Add your image or video, caption and location if needed.
Step 2 – Select Tag People
Select the “tag people” option in your draft and then tap the “invite collaborators” button. Here is where you can invite collaborators. You can select up to five collaborators for your post.
Step 3 – Hit Publish
Hit publish on your post and then your collaborators will be notified. They will have to accept the collaboration in order for it to show up in their feed.
Things To Keep In Mind When Collaborating On Instagram
Be sure to work with people who are expecting you to collaborate with them. Just randomly inviting accounts is spammy and not a great way to conduct your Instagram account. Invite people you are coordinating to work with on these collaborations.
You’ll also want to keep your caption in mind. Since this social media post will be showing up in other accounts’ feeds, you want the caption to feel universal enough that it works on your account, and also your collaborators.

How To Add A Collaborator On Instagram After Posting
Up until now, you were only able to add a single collaborator per post and it had to be done prior to hitting publish. There are now recent updates to Instagram allowing you to add a collaborator AFTER you’ve posted.
The way you do this is the same way you would add a collaborator from a draft. Just hit the three dots in the top right corner, select edit, and tag people. There will be an option to also invite them as collaborators.
Adding collaborators AFTER you post seems to only be an option on Reels, not in-feed posts. It also is only available on select accounts. For example, The Blog Societies account does not have this feature, and it also can not join broadcast channels or has the new updated stickers.
However, my other account, @anindigoday, has all the new features and can add collaborators to posts after hitting publish on Reels only. So if your account is not fully up to date with the latest features, this will likely not be an option for you.
How will you use this feature to grow your account and get creative with fellow influencers?
