Tell us a little bit more about you and your blog, A Boy. A Girl. + A Passport.
I am Ashleigh Hodges. I blog about life and travels with my college sweetheart – Kevin. We have been married for 30 years and have three beautiful children. We have a passion for discovering things to do in California – especially the San Francisco Bay Area (an area we’ve both grown up in)…. as well as discovering the world beyond. We can’t wait until the world opens back up and we can travel internationally! We also love staying close to the ocean as our Instagram feed reflects. We believe we have a unique voice. As an African-American couple, we like to inspire other couples to spread their wings and see the world….. and as a couple whose children are beginning to spread their wings and make their own paths, we also write from the perspective of discovering new things again as (almost) empty-nesters.
What does a typical work day for you look like? Whether you’re a full time blogger or not, we’d love to learn what your schedule looks like and how you manage it all.
I work part-time as an instructional aide (kindergarten and 1st grade)….. I work M-F 8am – 1pm. And then pivot to home life (laundry, chores, cooking, and these last few months reading over college application essays for our youngest daughter). I usually blog/Instagram after 6pm.
Have you had to pivot your business due to COVID? How so and what has that looked like? Any advice?
I’ve had to pivot from writing about international travel….. which has actually been good for us! We are discovering more about places right in our “backyard”!
What topic do you most enjoy writing about?
Local gems in our San Francisco Bay Area.
What would your dream partnership look like? From the brand, the content, all of it! Dream up your perfect collaboration.
I’d love to do a collaboration with United Airlines! Seeing the world and more of the United States after our daughter graduates from high school this May……. it will officially be the beginning of a new life as empty-nesters. We’d like to write about traveling after raising children and seeing them off to college.
What is a current blogging goal you are working on?
Being able to blog content once a week (on a regular schedule).
What’s your most recent WIN with your blog?
Reaching 500 followers on Instagram and 30 subscribers on the blog.
If you could do brunch with any blogger, who it would it be and what would you ask them?
Emma’s Edition — she gives great advice on her Instagram page and podcast (Content Creatives)….. I think I’d just like to shadow her to see how she structures her time. Same w Mattie James and Ruthie Ridley….. how to manage time while juggling children and jobs!
