The Modern Savvy Blog

What’s your blog name?

The Modern Savvy

Where do you live?

Palm Beach Gardens, Florida

Tell us more about you and your blog

I started The Modern Savvy because I have a real passion to connect with other women, inspire them and help them feel beautiful, and have candid conversations that so many of us are, and particularly, were, scared to have. I’ve talked about seeing a therapist, about not being able to have more children, about losing my dad, about our adoption process, and so much more. I delve into content relating to attainable style, home, career and inspiration.

Where did the name come from?

I rebranded in 2017 from The Average Girl’s Guide; I still love that name but wanted something more reflective of who I am today, who my readers are, and what we aspire to be. I’m 38 (woah!), and I wanted a name that better suited me looking toward 40 (double woah!) compared to when I first started the site at 30 years old.

What people don’t realize about blogging is…

it’s so much more work than people think it is!

What are 3 things you wish you knew about blogging before you started?

  1. How time intensive the “back end” (billing, emailing, pitching, etc) is before you even start writing.
  2. That I would find such a powerful community of women from around the country and world that I would have never met and connected with others (both readers & bloggers).
  3. That you are going to learn so many invaluable things about your self, along with the talent and determination of running your own business. Blogging is not, oh I blog… we are entrepreneurs who are impacting how people live their lives. That’s phenomenal, and a responsibility.

What’s been your most memorable moment as a blogger?

I’m not someone who now would attend NYFW, but back in 2011 I decided to go for four days to the city, stay with Kim from Penny Pincher Fashion (we had only connected via Twitter), and run around the city, see shows, and just meet so, so many other new bloggers. It was amazing.

Since last year’s conference I’ve worked with Vera Bradley & Lilly Pulitzer, and mostly, I’m proud of the friendships I’ve formed. I remember sitting in my hotel room having the most amazing conversation with three women I would have never otherwise met. Thank you for that.
